The Conrad Hotel has opened as a five-star hotel located in the historic Levantehaus building in the heart of Hamburg city centre. The former office building with its listed brick façade was built in 1912 by Franz Bach. In the late 1990s the building underwent extensive renovation by the owner family Bach. The upper eight floors were transformed into a luxury hotel, the former Park Hyatt Hamburg. The lower two floors now feature an exclusive, two-story shopping arcade, open to all Hamburg residents.
The subtle blend of Art Nouveau and Art Deco in the passageway also inspired the interior design of the new luxury hotel. The design by the design studio ‘1508 London’ combines organic Art Nouveau forms with geometric Art Deco aesthetics in a warm colour palette. References to the city’s green oases and craftsmanship complement the overall concept, which exudes urban and distinguished elegance.
The Korb office planned and supervised all conversion and renovation work across 10 floors and a total area of over 25,000 square meters. Fire protection throughout the building was upgraded to meet current requirements. The implementation planning also included built-in furniture in all areas.
On the upper seven floors, a total of 15,400 square meters of guest rooms were renovated. 283 rooms, including 25 suites, one of which is a presidential suite measuring almost 300 square metres, and 32 apartments received a new interior design. During the redesign, care was taken to incorporate as many existing materials as possible to ensure the most sustainable use of the existing structure. Numerous built-in wooden elements in the rooms and bathrooms were preserved and refurbished, and the natural stone floors in the bathrooms were retained.
On the second floor, the new reception area, a large conference area, the restaurant with private dining rooms, and the bar were created. The front of house areas encompass around 2,100 square metres. In addition, the banquet kitchen was completely renovated and a new front cooking area was added to the restaurant. With its cuisine, the restaurant invites guests to South America. The hotel’s Art Deco ambience becomes more exotic here – custom-made, imposing tulip-shaped lights illuminate the scene.
In the public areas, too, the parquet flooring and wall panelling made of reddish cherry wood were largely integrated into the interior design concept. The refurbished wooden elements contribute significantly to the unique and warm atmosphere.
The spa in the basement, which covers almost 1,000 square metres and features a 20-metre indoor pool, has been given a facelift.
In the foyer with bell desk on the ground floor, which is also accessible via the passageway, the splendour of the upper floors unfolds as soon as you arrive. Behind a sculptural marble counter, your gaze falls on an art object that opens the series of works exhibited in the building.
The Conrad Hotel belongs to the Hilton Group and is the first of this brand in Germany.
