The traditional Hotel Europäischer Hof is located with its main entrance directly opposite Hamburg Central Station. With its 275 rooms and public areas, the 4-star hotel extends across almost the entire block. The individual parts of the building were constructed in different years: opened in 1925, extensions were added in the 1950s and 1970s, followed by the so-called leisure building in 1988. A pool area extending over the first and second floor as well as four further wellness and fitness floors provide relaxation for hotel guests.

Besides the complete refurbishment of this part of the building, the Korb office was commissioned with a contemporary upgrade and reinterpretation of the interior design. In addition, the entire technical building equipment and fire protection were to be brought up to date.

The concept for the redesign of the pool and wellness area is part of the overall considerations for the new hotel character, its positioning in relation to the hotel competitors in the immediate vicinity and its structural requirements. In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the big city, a relaxing retreat has been created.

As a refuge with a meditative and natural character, it aims to immerse body and soul in equal measure. This is achieved through a soft, harmonious design language, earthy colours and natural materials. The rhythmisation of surfaces and spatial sequences as well as a lighting design that plays with transparencies and reflections create the desired meditative yet sensual atmosphere.
