The Korb office developed a spatial concept to create a versatile and flexible entrance foyer for the city hall, which is used for a wide variety of shows, large-scale events and trade fairs. The focal point of the design was the core zone of the foyer including the 14 m high air space.

From the two main staircases, the viewer’s gaze is directed to a screen that covers the technical control centres in an orderly manner or fashion. In addition to the integration of a rear projection surface, its semi-transparent surface makes the streams of people moving behind the screen visible. The desire to voyeuristically experience the crowds of visitors was made the theme here.

A huge luminous cylinder encloses the space above the gastronomic unit in the south of the foyer, which – with regard to the long-distance effect – additionally emphasises the axis of the main entrance. The deliberately restrained use of materials favours an event-related staging by accentuating lighting effects such as the coloured backlighting of the container end faces or projections on the light band and screen.
