The aja Hotel Garmisch-Partenkirchen was opened in June 2021. It is the second aja Resort entirely designed by the Korb office after the first one in Ruhpolding, completed 2019.
In total it is the seventh house of the group, which belongs to the Deutsche Seereederei (DSR). In 2013, the first aja Hotel was opened in Warnemünde, followed by other hotels in Grömitz and Bad Saarow in 2015 and in Travemünde and Zurich in 2018. In 2019 and 2021, the first two aja resorts in southern Germany were built. The brand aja has the claim to offer inexpensive wellness holidays in German-speaking countries.
The 229-room hotel is located in the centre of the city with views of the Alps and Zugspitze. The target group is “leisure guests” such as singles, couples and families. Additionally many active holidaymakers are also expected due to the numerous leisure facilities in the area, such as hiking or mountain biking. The 2000 m² spa area is available for all, which includes an outdoor and indoor pool as well as several steam baths and saunas.
The design of the hotel is composed of two essential aspects, the relationship to nature and the contrast between modernity and down-to-earthness. The aim is to create a contemporary alternative to traditional inns and hotels: a modern feel combined with alpine flair, cosmopolitanism and a sense of tradition – a concept that characterizes Garmisch-Partenkirchen itself.
Die fließenden Übergänge der einzelnen The flowing transitions of the individual areas support the fusion of tradition and modernity, and also offer places of tranquility or communication. In order to create a sense of homeliness, the theme “frame and framing” is increasingly taken up as a design element. In addition, there are playful historical references and combinations of rustic and traditional elements.
